The World Meat Championship – CMDC® Reveals the Best Cuts in the World

This historic event—organized by Dr. Luis Barcos, creator and Director of the Argentine Meat Sommelier School, together with AmeriCarne magazine and Messe Frankfurt Argentina—brought together leading international meat-quality experts to recognize tenderness, juiciness, and flavor.

A Jury of Experts
The CMDC® received high-quality entries from Ireland, the United Kingdom, Spain, Peru, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina. To ensure a transparent and reliable evaluation process, the competition was judged by three specialized groups: Meat Sommeliers, trained Consumers, and a distinguished panel of International Chefs and Experts. This top-tier panel included personalities such as Gastón Acurio, Christian Petersen, Juan Gaffuri, María De Michelis, Arturo González, Pietro Sorba, Ale Feraud, Nicolás Arcuchi, Juan Pedro Rastellino, Gustavo Fuentes, Kazuhito Obara, Maximiliano Britez, Micaela Najmanovich, Dario Gualtieri, Javier Brichetto, Matías Villalba, Martín Altmirano, Tomás Perlberger, Ita Pereyra Goday, Fabrizio Mendez, Diego Gauna, Anita Sanchez, Juan Ignacio Fouco, Martín Rebaudino, Nico Arcuchi, Maximiliano Rossi, Tomas Treshanski, Tiago Leite, Agustín Basualdo, and Luciano Nanni.

The awards ceremony was attended by Fernando Gorbarán, President and CEO of Messe Frankfurt Argentina; Nicolás Pino, President of the Argentine Rural Society; and Hernán Lombardi, Minister of Economic Development of the City of Buenos Aires.

Grain-Fed Striploin: Gold Medal – Alfonso Rebaza González, Establecimiento Emilio Cubas, Trujillo, Peru (Breed: Peruvian Criolla).
Grass-Fed Ribeye: Gold Medal – Quickfood S.A., Establecimiento Ricardo y Omar Bailo, Argentina (Breed: Aberdeen Angus).
Grass-Fed Striploin: Gold Medal – Alejandro González, Establecimiento Frigorífico Las Piedras, Uruguay (Breed: Aberdeen Angus).

The winning cuts not only receive international recognition but are also authorized to use the CMDC® seal in the commercialization of their products—a symbol that guarantees top-tier quality.

Dr. Luis Barcos, organizer and creator of the competition, highlighted the success of this first edition and the vision behind the project:
“Showcasing meat quality means recognizing and rewarding everyone who works to achieve it, and honoring consumers.”

Meanwhile, chef, entrepreneur, and event host Christian Petersen added:

The CMDC® closes its first edition with the promise of becoming the annual flagship event for the meat industry, projecting passion and expertise from Argentina to the world.
